US territories must work together to address violence against women

3:23 pm on 26 June 2012

The director of the US Department of Interior Office of Insular Affairs has called on US territories to collaborate in dealing with violence against women.

Nikolao Pula says such crime will no longer be tolerated in today's society.

He says it is significant that the US territories work together to combat such a global issue by sharing successes, challenges, ideas and strategies across all territories.

Mr Pula had been speaking at the opening of the US Territory Summit on Violence Against Women in the Northern Marianas.

The Summit, the first of its kind, is being attended by key island officials, local providers and other stakeholders from the CNMI, Guam, American Samoa, the US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.
