Vote of no confidence motion in Tonga's PM today

7:02 am on 28 June 2012

The motion for a vote of no confidence in Tonga's prime minister is due to be debated in the house today.

Matangi Tonga online says the motion was scheduled to be debated yesterday but the Speaker, Lord Lasike, told Parliament that they would start their deliberation on the motion today.

The Democratic Party lodged the motion against the government of Lord Tu'ivakano last week.

It claims the backing of 13 of the 26 MPs able to vote on such an issue after three Cabinet Ministers resigned earlier this week.
