Qarase still seeking lawyer for Fiji trial

2:22 pm on 28 June 2012

Another attempt has been made by former Fiji Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase's lawyer today for his trial date to be delayed.

It is alleged that Mr Qarase facilitated and allowed the purchase of Class A FHL shares for certain companies when he was director of Fiji Holdings Limited, financial advisor of the Fijian Affairs Board and advisor to the Great Council of Chiefs.

Mr Qarase's lawyer Qoriniasi Bale said Mr Qarase is still looking for representation at the trial and at this stage no one will be representing him if the trial goes ahead on Tuesday.

Fiji Village reports that the High Court judge Justice Priyantha Fernando has stressed that the trial will go ahead from next Tuesday.

Justice Fernando says Mr Qarase has received sufficient time.
