Vanuatu orders probe over alleged police mutiny

6:08 am on 5 July 2012

Vanuatu's Minister of Internal affairs, George Wells, has ordered an investigation into reports of a mutiny within the police force.

Local media reports there is a split within the Police Force over the suspension of the Police Commissioner, Joshua Bong, and two senior officers.

A group of senior police officers have reportedly warned the government to reinstate Mr Bong and stop the acting police commissioner, Arthur Caulton from making changes at the top of the police force.

Mr Wells yesterday summoned Mr Caulton over the allegations.

He told Mr Caulton to investigate the matter.
