Vanuatu police shot dead a prison escapee in the early hours of this morning.
The man, Moses Kilton, was arrested last year over allegations of a murder in Port Vila but he escaped a few months after his arrest, and has been on the run for more than a year.
Two escapees were injured while being recaptured in May, after the Minister, George Wells, authorised police and the Vanuatu Mobile Force to use live ammunition where necessary.
Police have not confirmed this morning's shooting, but the Port Vila Central Hospital says the body of the escapee is at the mortuary.
