The New Zealand Ministry of Pacific Island Affairs has announced an additional award to its third annual Prime Minister's Pacific Youth Awards.

The Vodafone New Zealand Foundation's Mobiles for Good Award is being offered for the first time along with a leadership award from Auckland University, a creative award from Weta Workshop, a Cogita sponsored software award for inspiration and an Air New Zealand award for innovation.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Ministry, Colin Tukuitonga says he would encourage New Zealand youth involved in media and communications to apply for the new award.

"It recognises a young person who's achieved something outstanding, something that has shown to use mobile technology to solve a problem, a particular problem in the Pacific community or used mobile technology for benefit in the community."

Colin Tukuitonga says the awards are open to Pacific Islanders aged 17 to 24 and living in New Zealand.
