Wife of former MP seeks Solomons seat in Malaita by-election

The only female candidate contesting the Solomon Islands by-election for the North Malaita seat, Vika Lusibaea, has launched her campaign in Honiara.

Ms Lusibaea is the wife of the former MP and Malaita Eagle Force militia leader, Jimmy Lusibaea, who lost his seat last year following an unlawful wounding conviction.

Mr Lusibaea was released by the Parole Board after serving only 41 days of a two year nine month prison sentence for shooting a hospitalised man in both knees and hitting a police officer over the head in 2000.

Vika Lusibaea has told SIBC News that she wants to complete what her husband promised the people of North Malaita when he stood in 2010.

She is contesting her husband's seat with nine other male candidates.
