CNMI college staff worried about government's pension programme

The Northern Marianas College in the CNMI says ongoing uncertainty over the government's pension programme is worrying its employees.

The Governor, Benigno Fitial, declared a state of emergency for the financially troubled NMI Retirement Fund last month, after it filed for bankruptcy.

A spokesperson for the Northern Marianas College, Frankie Eliptico, says there are several concerns surrounding the pension programme which may have led to the recent retirement of one teacher and the resignation of another, who subsequently withdrew their pension contributions.

"It's not just concentrated or restricted to instructors. It's really all employees of the college, including staff and faculty who have concerns about their contributions and what will occur within the next few months."
