The Marshall Islands National Telecommunications Authority has signed a deal with a Solomon Islands telecommunications company that will net the Majuro-based firm significant revenue.

BeMobile of Solomon Islands will buy excess satellite bandwidth from the Marshall Islands government's telecom.

Two years ago, the Marshalls company installed an underwater fiber optic cable linking it to Guam, ending its need for most of its satellite bandwidth for communications.

But the National Telecommunications Authority was under contract for long-term satellite use.

With the deal with the Solomons telecom company, NTA will be generating revenue from this excess satellite capacity.
