2:38 pm on 24 July 2012

Britain's Ministry of Defence is training Indonesia military personnel in how to deal with the media.

Britain's deputy ambassador to Indonesia, Rebecca Razavi, says the media has the power to influence opinion, making such training programmes essential for a good democracy.

The Antara news agency quotes Ms Razavi as saying the training will help the soldiers work effectively with the media for accurate reporting and improved information flow.

An Indonesian military spokesperson, Rear Admiral Iskandar Sitompul, says the training is an effort to improve the ability of the TNI personnel to communicate in an ever-changing strategic environment.
