Sport: Fiji determined to make amends at women's 7s champs

10:20 am on 26 July 2012

Fiji's women's sevens team is hoping home ground advantage can spur them on to a happier outcome in next week's Oceania Championship.

The Fijiana team finished third at the same event four years ago, and missed out on a place at the women's world cup.

This time around the top three teams all qualify for next year's global showpiece and Fiji coach Elenoa Kunatuba says the team is striving to take the next step.

"Four years ago the girls played against Australia and New Zealand in Samoa and most of them are still in this squad and I think we want to make amendments in this tournament. We're not going to say we will win it but the girls have indicated they are confident they will go out there and hopefully, come the fourth of August in the final, Fiji will be in the final."

Fiji are in the same pool as New Zealand, Cook Islands and Tonga.
