The Papua New Guinea electoral commissioner, Andrew Trawen, has urged officials to return the writs for their respective electorates as soon as possible.

The election process is now nearing an end with the deadline for writs on Wednesday.

The newspaper, The National, reports Mr Trawen as saying he remains confident that counting for the seats left to be declared will be completed before the deadline.

He is appealing again to officials who have declared their results to please bring in their writs as soon as possible.

Mr Trawen says he is aware all eyes are on two more women candidates who are in the running in their seats.
