Sport: Call for American Samoa to quit Pacific Games

10:35 am on 31 July 2012

American Samoa's Congressman Faleomavaega Eni Hunkin has suggested the Territory review its participation in the Pacific Games to concentrate on preparing athletes for the Olympics.

He says the Territory has always struggled to participate in the Pacific Games and believes the time has come to focus on helping athletes compete in regional and qualifying tournaments that will allow them to compete at the Olympics.

He has also called for the two Samoas to share resources and establish a better process of screening Samoan athletes living overseas who want to represent them in the Olympics.
