Several officials of French Polynesia's customs service have been accused of raping a female colleague and assaulting another.

Reports say eight men have been taken into custody over the alleged rape and for failing to report a crime which is said to have been committed on a customs ship in April.

According to Tahiti Info she has told investigators she was raped by five of her colleagues.

The custom office's management has issued a statement, saying there will be the harshest punishment on an administrative level, should the claims be proven.

It also says it has been carrying out an internal investigation, during which the woman explained the difficulties she had with her colleagues.
