The Nauru government says it is possible a detention camp for asylum seekers trying to get into Australia could be in operation within a month.
The governments of both countries have reached agreement today to re-open one of the camps on Nauru that was previously part of Canberra's so-called 'Pacific Solution'.
The camps closed soon after the Labor government came to power in 2007.
Canberra is still to pass legislation to allow the re-commissioning of the camps but a team of Australian officials is due on Nauru later this week.
Nauru's Foreign Minister, Dr Kieren Keke, says the officials will assess what is needed to open the camp but he says there's a lot they need to discuss, including when the camp might open.
"And what the look of that may be in the initial stages but we believe that there are options to a centre in operation within a month. Obviously with some interim arrangements prior to a longer term and more established facility being developed."
