No jail for prostitution ring couple in Samoa

A couple in Samoa has escaped jail terms after being found guilty of living on earnings from a prostitution ring run from home in Malololelei.

The District court judge, Mata Tuatagaloa, has imposed a fine on Sanele Sanele of 400 US dollars on four counts of living on the earnings from prostitution.

Metala James has been fined 650 dollars on seven charges.

The fines have to be paid promptly or the couple will be jailed.

The lighter sentences were imposed partly because they were first time offenders and they housed the young women involved in the prostitution ring.
