Sport: Batting fails PNG cricketers once again

10:10 am on 17 August 2012

Batting has again proved the achilles heel for Papua New Guinea's cricketers at the Under 19 World Cup.

Chad Soper starred with the ball, taking 5 for 32 while Toua Tom gave up just 26 runs in his ten over spell, as India were all out for 204.

But in reply, the Garamuts again failed to build meaningful partnerships and were all out for just 97.

Captain Chris Kent continued his determined effort with 27, while Charles Amini top-scored with 28, but it was Ravikant Singh's 5 for 21 from nine overs which proved fatal.

So PNG end pool play with three losses and will now meet Afghanistan in a ninth place playoff quarter final.
