The family of a prominent Fiji businesswoman facing charges of trying to overthrow the interim regime, wants the United States Secretary of State, Hilary Clinton to step in.
74 year old Dr Mere Samisoni, a former MP, was arrested at the beginning of the year.
Last month she applied to the courts for a variation to her bail conditions to allow her to seek medical treatment in Australia.
This has now been granted.
Mrs Samisoni's family has called for Mrs Clinton and the governments of Australia and New Zealand to make Fiji's interim government account for human rights violations and the denigration of the rule of law.
Mrs Clinton is expected to attend this week's Pacific Islands Forum meeting in Rarotonga where the situation in Fiji will be discussed.
The Samisoni family, in a statement, say Australia and New Zealand have recently re-engaged diplomatic ties with Fiji, yet the regime continues to bully the people of Fiji and stifle opposing voices.
