Solomons PM to announce this week next Parliament meeting

8:18 am on 28 August 2012

Solomon Islands Prime Minister, Gordon Darcy Lilo, is expected to announce this week a date for National Parliament to convene its first meeting this year.

Parliament Speaker, Sir Allan Kemakeza, had indicated that Parliament would meet in October, but it's understood that Cabinet has agreed to that Prime Minister Lilo must set the date for the meeting this week.

Cabinet is understood to have reached the decision before Mr Lilo went for a week-long state visit to Australia last week.

The Parliamentary Opposition has been nagging Prime Minister Lilo to convene the meeting so that additional funds could be allocated to towards the 2012 $3billion dollar budget, which is now exhausted.

The Opposition has accused Mr Lilo of delaying the meeting of Parliament because there is instability in his ruling National Coalition for Rural Advancement Government, which he has flatly denied.
