Investment Fiji has approved a more than 55 million US dollar application from an American company to start a waste management business in Viti Levu.

The Investment Fiji chairman, Adrian Sofield, confirmed the deal to Fiji Times, saying the investment should create about 200 new jobs.

The company proposed to collect rubbish across the country, including villages and rural areas.

Mr Sofield says the company would use incinerators and landfills only if they did not collect enough rubbish to burn.
