The President of the Fiji Disabled People's Federation, Sam Vilsoni, says Fiji's gold medal win at the Paralympics is a breakthrough for the whole disabled community in Fiji.

Mr Vilsoni says the win by high jumper, Iliesa Delana, has been the talk of the town and supports efforts to have disability brought into the mainstream of Fiji's planning and development.

He says his organisation is excited at being able to use Delana's success as a tool in advocating for the rights of the disabled.

"I believe the reaction has really opened up the door for them to see and to understand what a person can do irrespective of disability. We are amazed and so excited and thankful for this event."
