23 Chinese nationals have been arrested in Papua New Guinea's Eastern Highlands by the Immigration Task Force.

They include six women.

The youngest is an 18 year old who entered PNG on a student visa but was found working.

The others are aged between 20 and 50.

The National newspaper reports the co-ordinator of the Task Force, John Bria, saying there were many discrepancies in their entry permits.

The task force also confiscated seven firearms and ammunition, pornographic materials, and three cartons of counterfeit cigarettes.

The group is being held in custody at Goroka police cells.

Another 16 are to be interviewed for apparent minor discrepancies in their entry permits.
