Early voting for general elections in American Samoa begins tomorrow

10:13 am on 10 September 2012

The Election Office in American Samoa is scheduled to start early voting tomorrow for this year's general election.

The ballots for the certified candidates in the U.S. Congressional, and the local House of Representatives races will be ready tomorrow for qualified registered voters who will be off island during the November 6th general election.

Meanwhile, the ballots in the gubernatorial race will not be included.

This follows a challenge filed by candidate for governor Save Liuato Tuitele and his running mate candidate for lieutenant governor Sandra King Young.

The main argument in the challenge is that four individuals in the gubernatorial race allegedly violated local laws by publicly campaigning without first resigning from their government jobs.

Until the challenge issue is resolved, following a grace period, chief election officer, Soliai Tuipine Fuimano says the ballot for the gubernatorial race will not be printed.
