6:35 am on 17 September 2012

In Solomon Islands, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will today call on the Prime Minister and Cabinet and visit the Panatina cultural village.

The couple are in Solomon Islands as part of the celebration of the Queen's diamond jubilee.

Prince William and his wife Catherine arrived in Honiara yesterday to a rousing warriors welcome of local chanting, panpipe flutes, traditional drum beating and a large group of well wishers.

The Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation says thousands of locals packed the surroundings of the airport to welcome and catch a glimpse of the couple.

It says part of the couples royal engagements today will also include an appearance at the Commonwealth Pacific Youth Leadership and Integrity Conference.
