Royal couple wear island style fashions in Solomon Islands

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are getting a taste of local culture as their Solomon Islands visit continues today.

The Royal Couple arrived in the capital, Honiara, yesterday as part of a nine day tour of the Asia-Pacific region to mark the Queen's diamond jubilee.

Our correspondent in Honiara, Dorothy Wickham says the Duke and Duchess stunned a few people during their visit to Government House last night, when they donned bright, island style outfits gifted by a local designer.

She says the blue island shirt worn by Prince William and Catherine's long, strapless, pink dress may inspire Solomon Islanders to embrace island style clothing by local designers.

"I think it'll encourage the local markets to buy local and start thinking you know, making their own products instead of always relying on imports, even though this country relies a lot on imports."

Dorothy Wickham says the Royal Couple will travel to Tuvalu tomorrow.
