Sport: Playoff spots on line in Apia

Vanuatu and Samoa will square off on Wednesday with neither team yet guaranteed a place in the World Cricket League 8 semi finals.

Vanuatu won their opening two games against Norway and Ghana and can secure top spot with a victory, while a loss could see the net run-rate come into play provided Ghana beat Norway.

In Pool B, Japan and Belgium have already secured a spot in the final four but will go head to head today to determine the top qualifier.

Japan coach Chris Ferguson says so far things are going according to plan.

"We came here just wanting to play simple cricket: bowl in the right areas - we're the best fielding team here - putting pressure in the field and batting the overs out in partnership. We've done all that in the first two games and we're fairly confident with the big matches coming up."
