The last of the five Fiji prison inmates who escaped near Suva last week has been recaptured by police.

Isoa Waqa was found in a taxi with his girlfriend at three o'clock this morning after police received an anonymous tip-off.

Four of the group were caught on an island near Suva on Friday night.

The acting assistant Police Commissioner and the Police Chief of Operations, Rusiate Tudravu, says several people are facing charges for helping the men.

"We have taken in yesterday about nine [people] for aiding the escapees. Six of them will be appearing in court. We would like to get to the bottom of this and find out who are the people behind the scenes, who masterminded the escape and all the activities that followed."

Mr Tudravu wouldn't say whether the remaining four, including Waqa's girlfriend, will face charges.
