The American Samoa Visitor's Bureau has been awarded grant funding of more than 200,000 US dollars to strengthen the capacity of local tourism industry members, through training.

The grant award is from the US Small Business Administration's programme called the State Trade and Export Promotion or STEP, which aims to increase the number of small businesses that are exporting and increase the value of exports.

The Visitor's Bureau says the STEP programme will work with American Samoa to strengthen the capacity of local tourism industry members with training to equip them with partnering skills in international travel trade.

The programme is also expected to support American Samoa's international travel partners to develop and promote consumer holiday packages from New Zealand, Australia and Samoa.
