Solomons Correctional Services investigate deaths of two inmates

The Solomon Islands Correctional Services will investigate into the deaths of two remand inmates at Auki Correctional Centre who died on different dates this month at the Kilu'ufi Hospital.

Correctional Services Commissioner Francis Haisoma confirms to SIBC News that both remand inmates died due to some medical conditions.

He says the first was a 19 year old who had some medical complication died on the second of this month.

Mr Haisoma says the second remand was a 20 year old male who died on Monday this week.

He says both inmates fell ill at the Auki Correctional Services and were escorted to Kilu'ufi Hospital where they later died.

The circumstances surrounding the death of the second inmate will be known later after the inquiry report is completed.
