Push in Samoa to find more science teachers

3:49 pm on 1 October 2012

The Samoa Government is offering more incentives to attract science teachers.

Talamua online quotes the Minister of Education, Magele Mauiliu, saying that by the end of the year at least all primary schools will have enough mathematics teachers.

But he says there is still a shortage of maths and science teachers for the higher grade levels.

The Minister says is why the government is offering incentives to attract more young people to take up science teaching.

Magele, himself an educator and former Vice Chancellor of the National University of Samoa, says the teacher shortage is not a new problem and will not be solved in the short term.
