Two Vanuatu Police Service Commission members sacked

7:11 pm on 4 October 2012

The rift within the Vanuatu Police Force has resulted in the apparent sacking of two members of the Police Service Commission.

The vice chairman, Willie Karie, says he has only seen a copy of the termination letter from the President that applies to him and Harry Collins.

This comes amid the Commission's insistence that Joshua Bong is the commissioner and not Arthur Caulton who was arrested last weekend for allegedly inciting a mutiny.

Mr Karie says while he has been told that the new members are Herve Hopkins and Solomon Wari, he wants to know more about his apparent removal.

"We are just trying to do the right thing by keeping the independence of the commission and I will seek a legal opinion on this to see if this removal is justified and legal."

Willie Karie says a review of Mr Bong's performance is to held on Monday.
