The French National Assembly's law commission has adopted the bill aimed at tackling the high cost of living in France's overseas department and territories.

The bill had been passed by the Senate and is expected to be debated in the Assembly next week.

The law aims to keep prices in overseas territories in check as promised by the President Francois Hollande during the presidential election campaign.

The assembly has also asked the government to compile a report to ascertain the price structure of the air links on offer between France and the overseas territories.

The opposition UMP has abstained from voting on the bill.
