Vanuatu's President calls for constitutional review

11:36 am on 8 October 2012

Vanuatu's Head of State Iolu Johnson Abbil has asked the Government to review the country's Constitution.

The Constitution has not been amended since it was first signed by the late Father Walter Lini 33 years ago in 1979.

President Abbil says he will consult with the Government to speed up the process towards a constitutional review.

The Daily Post newspaper says the President's appeal is the second after the former Head of State, Mr Kalkot Mataskeleke, called for amendments almost five years ago.
