The New Zealand Presbyterian Church has stepped in to advocate for Pacific Islanders whose homes are at risk of disappearing due to climate change.
The church unanimously voted on the move at its biennial assembly last week.
The Clerk of the Presbyterian Church's Pacific Island synod, Asora Amosa, says low-lying atolls will soon be underwater as sea levels continue to rise.
He says the church is urging the New Zealand government to make plans to relocate people affected.
"Our big concern here I guess is to provide assistance in working out a solution for possible displaced people of the Pacific in low lying atolls and low lying islands...we continue to say a lot of things but not do."
The Reverend Amosa says the government needs to act fast before it's too late.
