Disruptions feared over Tahiti port strike

There are fears for disruptions at the port of Papeete in French Polynesia as a strike by tugboat pilots is in its second day.

They began their strike yesterday in an apparent bid to prevent large cargo ships from docking.

The Commerce Federation is alarmed at the action and has warned that the union behind the strikers may be liable for any losses.

Reports from Tahiti say the French High Commission has ordered a private company to help a cargo ship dock.

The union in turn has reportedly threatened to take legal action.
