Solomon Islands police says two escaped prisoners are are believed to have reached their villages on the weather coast of Guadalcanal.

A joint police operation with the correctional services is intensifying for the two lifetime prison inmates, who escaped last week.

The acting Commissioner Walter Kola says they need support and assistance from the community and relatives of the escapees.

"We are very sure that they are now at the Weathercoast and we have operations that will be taking care of the plans. We don't want them to commit offences, they are not free men, and they must fully serve their sentence in the prison."

Walter Kola says the escapees are lifetime prisoners and are dangerous to the community.
