The French government is looking at improving its trade relations with Fiji.

The Deputy Head of Mission at the French Embassy in Fiji told the Fiji Times newspaper France mainly imports Fiji Water but the country would like to export more food products to Fiji such as cheese, meat and delicacies.

Jules Irrmann says about 440,000 US dollars worth of goods were imported from Fiji and about four million was exported to Fiji last year.

Mr Irrman says despite its trade volume to Fiji being relatively low compared to Australia and New Zealand, he is adamant France will receive a big boost.

He says with Fiji and France being tourism countries, the Fijian and French tourism agencies can work together to increase the tourism capacity.
