The Samoa government is to open its first consulate in Sydney on Friday, with the Prime Minister, Tuila'epa Sa'ilele Malielegaoi, giving a speech at the opening ceremony.
The office is to help the many Samoans living in New South Wales and other parts of Australia with immigration matters and other concerns.
The former South Pacific Games chief executive, Manogiamanu Fonoti Etuale Ioane, has been appointed consul, but the office will be under the overall supervision of the High Commissioner's office in Canberra.
While in Sydney, the Prime Minister will attend a celebration of Samoa's 50 years of independence.
