New CNMI impeachment bid looms in January

Another impeachment resolution against the Northern Marianas governor, Benigno Fitial, may be introduced as early as January, depending on the results of next month's elections.

The House minority leader, Joe Deleon Guerrero, who led an unsuccessful impeachment measure earlier this week, says it is up to voters to decide whether that should be the end of the process.

It has been suggested that if the minority bloc gains more support in the election it will again try to impeach the governor over corruption concerns.

Glen Hunter, who had helped organise a rally against corruption, says this week's impeachment vote was a necessary step toward impeachment in January.

A human rights activist Wendy Doromal says no honest legislator could review the evidence of the hearings and conclude the governor should not be impeached.
