Fiji LTA alarmed at school bus voucher abuse

Fiji's Land Transport Authority has received complaints over abuse of a school bus fare voucher system.

The Authority has heard from bus operators of vouchers being photocopied, and then sold on to third parties.

So far the LTA has received six fraudulent vouchers.

The Authority's Chief Executive, Naisa Tuinaceva, says it's unacceptable that people have stooped so low to abuse the assistance given to the needy and less fortunate.

He says people have been taking advantage of loop holes in the voucher system for personal gain.

The LTA is now working with transport operators and the Ministry of Education to see how the matter could be fixed.
