CNMI tourist arrivals up 20 percent

Visitor arrivals in the Northern Mariana Islands in August were up 20 percent compared to August last year.

The Marianas Visitors Authority says the islands of Saipan, Tinian, and Rota registered just over 40,000 arrivals.

Overall, visitor arrivals are up 15 percent so far this fiscal year to nearly 360,000.

Japan is the biggest source of tourists.

Arrivals from South Korea posted a seventh consecutive month of double-digit increases over last year.

Tourists from China have also shown consistent growth, jumping another 32 percent in August alone.
