Qarase lawyer to appeal, claiming Fiji miscarriage of justice

The lawyer representing Fiji's jailed and ousted Prime Minister, Laisenia Qarase, is claiming there was a miscarriage of justice and lawyers were confused throughout his trial.

Fiji Village reports that Tupou Draunidalo has made an application to appeal Qarase's conviction and one-year sentence in the Court of Appeal in Suva.

The former Prime Minister was convicted in July on numerous charges relating to corruption in office.

But the lawyer representing the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption, Vinsent Parera, says Ms Draunidalo did not specify how there was a miscarriage of justice.

Mr Parera also stressed that FICAC lawyers were not confused during the trial.
