The leader of the Vanua'aku Pati says he is trying to form a coalition government that is serious about wiping out corruption in Vanuatu.
The VP has won eight seats of the 52 seats in preliminary election results.
At this stage, no party has won more than eight seats.
Edward Natapei says the VP is talking with some of the larger parties, especially the Union of Moderate Parties, which has won six seats, about forming a coalition.
"We are trying to attract political parties who are prepared to work with us in dealing with corruption and poverty. For those of us who are opposed to some of the things that have been happening over the last two years we will need to work really to get the numbers together and hopefully we can then be in to try and deal with all the corruption that has taken place in the country."
Edward Natapei says among his priorities if he forms government is to amend laws to allow for courts to be able to use ombudsman reports to prosecute corrupt leaders.
