All set for today's mid-term elections in CNMI

Voters in the Northern Marianas voters will go to the polls today to elect, among other positions, the islands' non-voting delegate to U.S. Congress.

On the eve of the 2012 mid-term elections, the campaign of two-term congressman, Delegate Gregorio Kilili Sablan, got a big boost when U.S. President Barack Obama endorsed yesterday his re-election.

Mr Obama's endorsement comes days after former U.S. president Bill Clinton also supported his candidacy.

Republican National Committee chair Reince Priebus, meanwhile, also endorsed on Friday the candidacy of Mr Sablan's lone opponent in the election, Dr Ignacia Demapan of the Republican Party.

Mr Sablan is again running as an independent but during his two terms in U.S. Congress has caucused with Democrats.

Aside from the CNMI delegate to U.S. Congress, this year's mid-term election also has the following positions up for grabs: 20 seats in the House of Representatives; three seats in the Senate; three seats in the Board of Education; all positions in municipal councils; and retention of judges.
