Fiji unions accuse AG of misleading public

5:08 am on 7 November 2012

The Fiji Trades Union Congress has called on the interim attorney-general, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, to stop misleading the public.

In a statement, the FTUC says while the government claims not to be against the workers and the poor, it has intervened and lowered wage increases proposed by a tripartite committee of the Wages Council.

The unions ask why the Government delays payment of wage increases at every opportunity.

It says it is time that the government recognises that more and more people are being forced into poverty.
