CNMI's Governor told to resign or face impeachment

Newly elected members of the Northern Marianas House of Representatives have told Governor Benigno Fitial to resign now or be impeached.

In Tuesday's election, candidates opposing the governor won an overwhelming majority of the house of representatives.

A re-elected representative, Joe Deleon Guerrero, who is the main author of a resolution that would have impeached the governor in September, says the election results are a clear mandate from the people that they do not want Governor Fitial to be in power.

Only three of the 10 incumbents who voted against impeachment in September were voted back in.

Mr Guerrero has called for the Governor to resign now or the house will impeach him in January.
