Sexually assaulted Fiji inmate in intensive care

12:15 pm on 8 November 2012

The Fiji Corrections Service says it has referred a sexual assault at the Korovou prison to police.

FBC News says an inmate, who was allegedly attacked by two prisoners, has been transferred to the Intensive Care Unit of the Colonial War Memorial Hospital.

It also says seven prison officers then allegedly physically disciplined 52 inmates when they refused to disclose details of the attack.

The victim's mother will reportedly lodge an official complaint to the Corrections Commissioner's Office.

Meanwhile, police say they still haven't received a medical report on the injuries received by five escaped prisoners during their recapture in late September.

One man had his leg amputated after his recapture.
