Sport: Fiji keen on women's Pacific rugby tournament

Fiji coach Elenona Kunatuba is hopeful that a regional women's tournament can be set up for next year to give Pacific rugby nations more international exposure.

The Fijiana 'A' team beat a touring New Zealand Samoans side 46-10 earlier this week, a few days after the Fiji women's development side lost narrowly to the same opponent.

The Fiji women's national team hasn't played a full international since 2006 and Elenoa Kunatuba says a Pacific tournament seems like a logical way to get back in the game.

"Where we could play against Samoa and Tonga and keep it lively because if we concentrate more on sevens there is a possibility we might lose out in the interest. Whereas for fifteens if we can organise the regional meets that will bring in the numbers because back at home people prefer to play fifteen's compared to sevens."

Elenona Kunatuba says if the tournament was to take off hopefully it could be staged every year.
