Solomon Islanders risk losing land titles if they fail rent payments

2:43 pm on 12 November 2012

The Commissioner of Lands in Solomon Islands has issued a strict warning to people owing rent to the government to pay up or risk losing their land titles.

Silva Dunge issued the warning as the ministry is due to release the list of land rental arrears.

Land title holders who purchased land from the government are owing more than three million US dollars in unpaid land rentals, which are to be paid every January.

The Ministry of Lands, Housing and Survey is giving Fixed Term Estate title holders until the end of this month to pay up or they will receive a forfeiture notice and risk losing their properties.

Mr Dunge has warned he will not be lenient with people who fail to pay their arrears.
