A candidate for governor in American Samoa's special election says there needs to be continued closer cooperation between American Samoa and neighbouring Samoa.

The candidate and current lieutenant governor, Faoa Aitofele Sunia, says recent economic developments in Samoa indicate a need for continued closer co-operation.

He says the Samoa Tourism Authority continues to expand as well as the exports of locally manufactured products.

Faoa also says news of the U.S. Department of Agriculture approval of a slaughter house in Samoa heralds new possibilities from the entry into Pago Pago of Samoan meat products.
